Staying on the Fast Track to Success

When you first set a goal it?s pretty easy to stay on track. You?ve got a plan, you?re working the plan and your motivation is strong.

As time goes on, however, there exists the possibility of losing steam and getting off-track. In order to develop the momentum and stamina required to achieve your goals, there are several qualities you?ll need to work on:

1)	Belief. It is absolutely crucial that you believe in what you?re doing. This is easy at the beginning because you?re focused on what you stand to gain from achieving your goal. As time goes on, you may gradually forget how excited you were and start to lose that inner fire.

To avoid this possibility, be sure to keep your vision strong and clear in your mind. Write it out in full detail, or create a visual reminder with drawings, paintings or magazine photos that represent your goals. Revisit these reminders frequently.

2)	Confidence. Your confidence may be strong at the start but it can quickly fade when you encounter obstacles or setbacks. If this happens, remember that you once believed that you had the ability to achieve your goal. Remind yourself why you felt that way.

In fact, you may find it helpful to write these reasons down when you first set a goal, and then keep reading them back to yourself when you feel your confidence start to wane. Remind yourself that obstacles and setbacks are temporary, but a solid belief in yourself is enough to propel you through them.

3)	Determination. Believing in your goal and your ability to achieve it is a great start, but you also have to be determined to make it happen!

Keep your determination strong by refusing to be held back by obstacles, and reminding yourself daily how important your goals are to you. Determination is like an ember that burns in your belly, refusing to let you give up no matter how rough the going gets.

4)	Motivation. Staying motivated can also be a challenge, especially once the newness and excitement of your goals have worn off and it?s beginning to feel like ?work.?

Nine times out of ten, motivation requires a simple decision to stay optimistic and inspired. Find ways to keep your motivation high if your goal is truly important. Read books by people who have achieved impressive results. Talk to other successful people who have demonstrated tenacity and gone on to achieve much. The more you pump yourself up, the stronger your motivation will stay.

5)	Awareness. Finally, stay on the lookout for any signs of self-sabotage or waning interest. If you notice that you?re acting in ways that don?t further your goals, get to the root of the problem quickly so you can get back on track.

Discipline Yourself to Success

When working toward goals or striving for success in any endeavor, self-discipline is one vital quality you need to have. Most of us cringe at the thought because it brings to mind instant visions of sacrifice, difficulty and strain.

However, discipline doesn?t have to be so hard. The problem occurs when you try to go from having no self-discipline to forcing yourself to undertake a heavy load of responsibility. Talk about pressure!

Below are three easy ways to become more disciplined with a minimum of discomfort:

1)	First, change your attitude about discipline. One reason you may not be disciplined is because you think the activities or chores you need to do will be unpleasant in some way. The most common reaction to thoughts like that is to put the activities aside or avoid them until you feel ready to handle them.

Instead, pump yourself up and get motivated to get them done as soon as possible! Look forward to the challenge and keep affirming how great you?ll feel when you?re finished. Focus on the sense of personal accomplishment you?ll gain with every task and you?ll be much more likely to stick to your plans.

2)	Make self-discipline a gradual process. Rather than trying to force yourself into submission with a big list of tasks or activities, go a little easier on yourself to start.

Identify one small task or activity that you can use for practice. Make it something fairly easy to accomplish each day, and then make sure you do it. If you have to, post notes of encouragement everywhere or wear an elastic band around your wrist as a reminder. If possible, get this one task out of the way first thing in the morning before you do anything else. Make it your highest priority and it will soon become a solid habit.

Then, begin adding more tasks or activities ? or increase the size or frequency of the original task so you?re doing more each day. Little by little, keep increasing it like that and eventually you?ll find that you?re doing the things you set out to do without excuses or procrastination.

3)	Commitment. If you?re not fully committed to achieving your goals, you?ll probably have a harder time pushing yourself to work on them. Make a solemn vow to yourself that you will do what it takes to work on your goals every single day. Write a list of important action steps and make it your mission to do one or more of them each day. Re-commit yourself as often as necessary to make sure you stick to your plans.

More than anything else, self-discipline is a favorable result of a series of wise decisions that you make each day. Choose to be disciplined, choose to be successful ? and you will be!

Aim a Little Higher

Are you struggling to stay motivated on your journey to success? Have your goals lost some of the shine they had when you first set them? If so, you might consider whether they are big enough to keep your interest.

You may have thought so at one time but if they?re not what you really want deep down inside, you?re probably trying to force yourself to settle for what you think you can get.

There?s an easy solution to this problem: Aim Higher!

Set a goal that?s so big and impressive that it gets your heart pumping and sweat popping out on your brow; a goal that seems almost impossible but would dramatically change your life if you were able to achieve it.

Does that get the fire burning in your heart and soul?

If so, take some time right now to clarify your new goal. Write it out in detail and sketch out a plan of action to go for it. List as many reasons as possible why you think you can accomplish this goal ? and be specific! Think of any past accomplishments and what it took to achieve them. What kept you going? How badly did you want it, and what were you willing to do to achieve it?

Don?t allow fear or hesitation to seep into your mind!

You may be interested to know that it?s very common for people to underestimate their capabilities. You have a fixed perception of your limitations, and you?ve probably never thought much about raising the bar, right? If you?re like most people, you?ll be nodding in agreement to that question.

The truth is, you could probably blow your limitations sky high with only a teensy bit of effort and focus. This is especially true if you?re going after something that you want badly.

When you?ve chosen a larger goal and made it your mission to achieve it, you?ll have no shortage of motivation! You?ll be challenged beyond anything you?ve ever experienced before, and you?ll revel in the opportunity to prove yourself.

With each step you take toward a successful outcome, your determination and confidence will grow and you?ll wonder why you ever held yourself back.

Even better, once you accomplish this new goal, you will have set a higher standard of excellence for yourself and you?ll go on to achieve even greater goals later. You won?t be able to help it; you?ll be addicted to the thrill of victory!

Preparing for Success

Many people dream about becoming successful, but few people think about preparing for success ahead of time. When you consider that ?success? is really an inner process of growth and self-mastery, you realize that it?s not just about achieving a goal or becoming better at what you do.

Success actually changes who you are on a core level ? which will inevitably create changes in all aspects of your life. If you?re not ready for it, upheaval and turmoil can follow.

Make the transition smoother with a little foresight and planning in these three key areas:

1)	Mind

Some of the biggest changes you experience from success are mental. That much is obvious, because the differences in mental states between an unsuccessful person and a successful person are like day and night!

To prepare your mind for success, you may want to devote some time to encouraging yourself with positive self-talk, boosting your confidence and self-worth, and affirming your capabilities as often as you can.

Neglecting this mental conditioning could result in feelings of overwhelm and anxiety when you?re not prepared to handle the increased responsibility and pressure that can come along with greater success.

2)	Body

With greater success often come a more purposeful stride, straighter spine, and perhaps a chin held a fraction of an inch higher than it used to be. If you catch yourself slouching, avoiding eye contact or scurrying when you walk, it might be an indication that you?re not confident enough to handle the success you desire. Body language reveals a lot!

Begin carrying and conducting yourself like a person who is proud of their accomplishments and confident that they can achieve still greater things. Your body will convey the message both to other people, and your own psyche.

Also related to the body is your wardrobe. Are you dressing for success? Or do you dress like a person who aims to blend into the crowd and avoid attention? Take pride in your appearance and you?ll feel more inclined to take pride in the rest of your ?self? too.

3)	Spirit

Great success without spiritual fortitude can often breed arrogance. Developing your spiritual self while on the journey to success can encourage humility and compassion, build your character and strengthen your integrity. Always remember where you came from, and never take for granted the spiritual gifts that bloom from your journey to success.

As you focus on these three aspects of self-development, you?ll not only make it easier to handle your success when it arrives, you?ll probably grow more quickly into the successful person you want to become ? even before you?ve accomplished your goals!

The Greatest Benefit of Success

When you think of success, do you immediately picture monetary wealth, luxury homes, and fancy cars? Do you think of the respect and prestige you?ll receive when you?ve made your mark on the world? Or perhaps you imagine the sense of pride you?ll feel when you accomplish your objectives?

As great as those benefits can be, they cannot come close to matching the evolution of inner growth and personal mastery you experience along the way. While success is often viewed as an outer process of setting and achieving goals, it is much more a journey of inner development that changes you on a core level.

If you want to make sure you enjoy the greatest benefit on your journey to success, be sure to keep a strong focus on the following:

1)	Continuously expand your vision of what is possible for your life. A successful person knows that they are capable of much more than they ever thought possible. While they may start with smaller objectives to get their feet wet, they have an idea that those goals will grow in magnitude as they shift their perception of limitations.

Be sure you?re always thinking about ways to expand your horizons, and be and do more than you previously thought you could. If you keep your focus on the point just beyond where your known capabilities end, you?ll keep setting your sights just a little bit higher.

2)	Stretch beyond your comfort zones at every possible opportunity. In addition to believing you are capable of more, you should strive to prove it as often as you can. Don?t just dream big and plan big ? act big! Take bigger risks and trust your heart to lead you to the most beneficial opportunities to show what you can do.

With every giant step forward you take, your confidence and self-mastery will grow in proportion.

3)	Let your success show in the person you become, rather than your accomplishments. Rather than trying to impress others with what you can do (and have done) ? let your character and demeanor convey your power in every interaction with others. You?ll find that people usually care less about what you?ve done than who you are.

A truly successful person never has to say a word about their accomplishments, because it?s written all over them.

The greatest thing about this inner journey to success is that it automatically causes the floodgates of prosperity to open and shower you with other benefits, like money and prestige. Of course, by then they?re just a nice bonus to the greatest benefit of success ? who you?ve become along the way.

Success Requires a Clear Vision

One reason many people struggle to become successful is because they don?t have a clear vision of what they want to accomplish. They may have vague ideas of the benefits they?d like to gain, like more money or a bigger house ? but they have no idea how they?ll achieve them. They may try a few different ventures, halfheartedly working toward a greater level of success, but eventually lose interest when they don?t see much progress.

Has this been your experience too?

The problem may not be that you?re incapable of reaching the level of success you desire, but rather that you don?t have a clear enough vision of what you want to accomplish.

The true measure of success is not what comes from it, but rather your ability to see clearly what you want to achieve and then doing what it takes to make it happen!

Below you?ll find a simple 5-step process to help you develop a clear vision and put it into action:

1)	Know exactly what you want to accomplish. Rather than thinking about the perks and benefits that come along with success, focus instead on conceiving a PURPOSE. What do you want to accomplish? What is important to you? Why is it important?

Think about the qualities and skills you?d like to develop within yourself, and the types of goals that could help you do it. Be very specific! Write it down in minute detail.

2)	Know the approximate timeline for completion. Realistically, how long should it take for your objective to be completed? Barring any unexpected delays, have a general idea of when you should reach your goal.

3)	Have a list of clear action steps. Besides knowing exactly what you want to achieve, knowing exactly how you?ll do it is also vital. Think about the end result you want to create, and then consider exactly what you?d need to do in order to get from here to there. Write each step in order, and make a note of any possible obstacles you may face along with actions you could take to overcome them.

4)	Have a solid plan for putting those steps into action. Will all of your action steps be undertaken at once? Or is there a clear progression that needs to be followed? If a delay or obstacle comes up, would that change the order of your action steps? Prepare and plan ahead as much as possible.

Then, make sure you put your plans into action, and keep them in action.

5)	Finally, re-evaluate and readjust as necessary. Once you?re moving forward you?ll want to set aside some time to re-evaluate and readjust if circumstances have changed since you drew up your original plans. You can do this as frequently as needed in order to ensure you are staying on track.

With a clear vision and a strong desire to achieve it, you?ll soon find that you?re on the fast track to success like never before!

A Steady Diet of Success for the Mind

You?ve probably heard it said that you are what you think about the most, and being successful is no exception. There are other important facets of success too, like planning and preparing carefully, taking consistent action, and fine-tuning your plans as you go along. But your attitude is especially important because it determines so much of what you do ? or don?t do.

In order to ensure that you?ve got an attitude that will propel you to the success you crave, be sure to feed your mind a steady diet of success-based thoughts.

Below are 5 easy ways to do that:

1)	Study success stories. Make a habit of reading success stories in books, magazines, and online as often as you can! Pay close attention to the clues that are revealed, like the man who refused to give up no matter how much adversity he faced, or the woman who took on a massive cause because it was so vitally important to her. With each success story, you absorb little bits of insight and passion that you can apply to your own goal.

2)	Listen to the masters. Invest in some motivational CDs by powerful speakers and listen to them often. Since much of the information we absorb subconsciously is auditory, you?ll find yourself feeling more empowered and motivated automatically. Try audio books and seminars from greats like Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Brian Tracy, or Jack Canfield. You can also search online for your chosen speaker, or visit your local bookstore?s audio section.

3)	Read motivational material. In addition to listening to audio books and seminars, you can also stock up on motivational books, magazines ? or even calendars and posters! Try to choose material that relates to your own goals, whether they involve business, personal development, fitness, or anything else ? but even general motivation is better than nothing.

4)	Build yourself up. Have you checked your self-talk lately? If you?re in the habit of putting yourself down frequently, you?ll want to turn that around as quickly as possible. Work daily on building yourself up with positive self-talk. Encourage yourself, praise yourself, motivate yourself and support yourself ? verbally, mentally and emotionally. The more you do, the better you?ll feel about yourself and the more you?ll be able to achieve.

5)	Become successful now. One common trap that many of us fall into is looking to our outer circumstances to determine whether we?ve ?made it? or not. We won?t allow ourselves to feel successful until we achieve a specific goal, earn a certain level of income, drive a certain kind of car, etc. However, if you keep thinking of yourself as ALREADY being successful, you can simply keep striving to become more successful and feel better about yourself now!

Put Your Expectations to Work for You

Do you expect to be successful? Or do you spend much of your time worrying and obsessing about the possibility of failure?

One thing you?ll eventually learn on your journey to success is that your expectations hold great power! Whatever you expect to see and experience is usually what you?ll get. There are many ways this can affect your ability to reach your goals, but here are three main considerations you should be aware of:

1)	Your expectations affect your attitude. It?s amazing how much attitude has to do with success. A negative or cynical attitude is enough to prevent you from giving your best effort and attention to your goals, which will lead to lukewarm results.

If you want to experience dynamic results, you?ve got to have a dynamic attitude. You?ve got to be fired up, passionate, and committed to your goals as if your life depended on achieving them. Your success certainly does!

2)	Your expectations affect your willingness to take action. Not only will a negative expectation taint your attitude, it will also determine the intensity and frequency of your actions. If you expect things to go wrong, they usually will. If you expect to experience an unfavorable outcome, you?ll see little point in working on it as diligently as you could, which will return poor results also.

On the other hand, when you?re motivated and inspired about your goals and expect them to bring forth a lucrative outcome, your determination will skyrocket and you?ll move forward deliberately and swiftly. You?ll know you?re going to be successful, so why hesitate?

3)	Finally, your expectations affect your interactions with others. People can sense a negative attitude even if you don?t say a word (though it does seep into your language too). If you go into any potential partnership or opportunity with a negative expectation, your potential partners aren?t going to be inspired by your attitude. They?ll probably view you as an ineffective, unconfident person that they may not want to be involved with.

But a confident, positive person with a clear focus and solid plan of action is someone that everyone would want to work with! Not only will you feel better by expecting the best in every situation, your potential partners and benefactors will be inspired by your vision and determination, and be more likely to work with you.

You know the old saying, ?Expect the best and you?ll get it?? Take it seriously; for it holds a lot of wisdom.

One Sure Path to Success

Have you often wondered if you?re missing the obvious when it comes to being successful? If you?re still trying to achieve the level of success you desire (and most people are), ask yourself if you have been leaving out one vital ingredient: doing something you truly love.

Success can come from nearly anything you do, of course. If you have a solid plan and work consistently to see it through, you?re bound to enjoy some lucrative results. However, the likelihood of sticking to your plans increases by a lot if you?re actually enjoying the journey.

There are many benefits to doing something you love versus something that doesn?t inspire you, but here are a few big ones:

1)	First, you?ll automatically give it a stronger level of effort and focus than you would with something that?s unpleasant or tiresome. You?ll avoid the temptation to procrastinate because you?ll actually look forward to working on it. In fact, you?ll be having so much fun with it that it won?t feel like ?work? at all!

2)	Rather than expecting to see big results from your efforts right away, you?ll see the value in letting the process unfold in its own time. With most goals, you?re focused only on getting it done, reaching the finish line before you experience a sense of satisfaction. When you?re doing something you love, the payoff at the end is just a nice bonus ? the true reward comes from each moment you spend working on your labor of love!

3)	You?ll have more fun in the process. Have you ever achieved something that was extremely difficult and strenuous? By the time you reached the finish line you were probably too tired and relieved that it was over to fully enjoy the sense of accomplishment you would have felt otherwise. With something you truly love, you?ll have fun the whole way through, and get a much bigger ?high? when you finally do achieve it.

Not everyone believes this is so important. History is filled with people who saw an opportunity to be successful at a specific venture, and they put their best effort into it and succeeded ? even if they didn?t really ?love? what they were doing.

However, those people had something else that?s necessary: commitment and determination to see it through. If you?re disciplined and have strong willpower, you can make anything happen, whether you love it or not. But most people will need a little something extra to keep them motivated and determined, and doing something you love just might be enough to provide the fuel you need. Follow your heart and it will lead you to your greatest success ever!

Have you ever noticed a theme with successful people? Nine times out of ten, there was a risk involved and the person needed to take a chance in order to succeed.

Risk-taking is scary for most of us. We?ve been taught to be careful and take baby steps toward our dreams. There?s nothing wrong with this approach, except that it can limit our progress if we hang back for too long! And the longer we hang back, the harder it is to keep moving forward. We get locked into a rut of inertia and can?t seem to move past it.

Believe it or not, risk is not such a terrible thing if you view it from the right perspective. Most people look at it from the perspective of what they stand to lose if it doesn?t work out. But what do you stand to gain if it DOES work out?

Below you?ll find a simple process to determine which risks might be worth taking:

1)	What do you stand to gain? With any risk, you?ll want to first look at the potential gains. Make a list of what you stand to gain from moving forward on a risk, and include as much detail as you can. Consider every possible positive benefit you stand to receive.

2)	What are the possible negative consequences? Along with the positive benefits, there are always a few possible negative consequences to every risk. Make another list of these, again thinking about all the possible things that could go wrong, and what would happen if they did.

3)	Balance, balance, balance. Now compare the two lists and see which one has the strongest likelihood of coming to fruition. Would the gains be worth the risk? Would you be able to handle the negative consequences if they did happen? Are there any options for a middle ground decision, like taking smaller risks to start?

4)	How realistic are your fears? Take another look at your list of negative consequences and ask yourself how likely they are to happen. The majority of the time you?ll probably find that your fears don?t have any real substance ? they?re just fears. Evaluate each possibility carefully and determine whether it?s a real threat or not.

5)	Go with your gut. After carefully weighing the pros and cons, you should have a solid sense of whether you should take the risk now, or wait a bit longer. There?s no shame in deciding to hold back if you decide you can?t handle the negative consequences right now! Remember, you can always re-evaluate the same risk (and others) at a later time and see if conditions have improved at all.

Just by getting into the habit of evaluating your risks in this way, you empower yourself with the confidence to push through inertia and move steadily toward the success you desire.
